Oral history interview with Jake Craven, 1979 September 11.

Interview with Jake Craven concerning his experiences as founder, owner, and operator of Craven's, Inc. (formerly Craven's Dry Goods Store) in Denton, Texas. Craven discusses his childhood memories and his experiences during the Depression. He also comments upon Craven's Dairy and the early dairy industry in general, as well as his employment with Burr Stores. Craven recalls the growth and development of Denton, his schooling at Akron University and North Texas State, starting his uniform business in Denton in 1940, his business dealings with local firms, as well as the growth and development of his business, its incorporation, and the reasons for doing so. Craven also speaks about competition, malls, and shopping centers, the importance of independent businessmen to communities, and the reasons for his personal success and the growth of his company.
